FEBRUARY 28, 2011 ----- 'THE MAGIC MILE' SPEED REPORT; SUBWAY FRESH FIT 500 RECAP ..... The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returned to Phoenix International Raceway for the Subway Fresh Fit 500, the second race of the 2011 season. Below are a few fast facts from the day.
*Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet ended his 66-race winless streak by winning the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.
*He also led the most laps for the first time in his career at the 1-mile flat racetrack.
*Gordon's last win came in April 2009.
*Daytona 500 winner, Trevor Bayne wrecked early in the race. He finished in the 40th position.
*Pole sitter Carl Edwards was involved in a wreck on lap 60 that sent him to the garage. Edwards finished 28th.
*Immediately following Edwards crash another wild wreck occurred. Brian Vickers cut a tire after contact with Matt Kenseth, 13 cars were involved in the pile-up.
*The top-10 finishing positions; Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, A.J. Allmendinger and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
*The top-10 in points after Phoenix; Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, A.J. Allmendinger, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman, Juan Pablo Montoya and David Gilliland.
*The next NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will take place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, March 6 beginning at 3 p.m.
