MARCH 28, 2011 ----- NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER RECEIVES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE SEVEN SEALS AWARD ..... New Hampshire Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager, Jerry Gappens was honored with the Seven Seals award by the Department of Defense Committee for Employer Support within the National Guard and Reserve on Saturday, March 26, at an awards ceremony in Portsmouth, N.H.
The Seven Seals Award is given to a limited number of citizens by the State Chairman of each Employer Support Committee. It recognizes the efforts of individuals, organizations and businesses whose supportive deeds benefit all reserve components.
Gappens and "The Magic Mile" were selected as a recipient of the prestigious award for their continued support with local Reservists providing Combined-Services Color Guard for pre-race ceremonies during NASCAR event weekends. The speedway also offers special ticket packages for those who serve as well as their family members.
"It is quite an honor for New Hampshire Motor Speedway to be recognized by the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve with its prestigious Seven Seals award," said Gappens. "In my opinion, there is nothing more American than the men and women of the United States Military and the fans of NASCAR. It is a pleasure to host this very appreciative contingent of military families to our NASCAR events and provide them with some exciting racing entertainment, giving them a short diversion from the challenges and hardships encountered by active duty to protect our freedom of this great country."
Race fans may not know that nearly half of all U.S. military forces reside in the Reserve Component; which includes the Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve. The men and women who serve within the Reserve Component also have civilian jobs, making it vital that employers support the value of their military service.
