JULY 3, 2011 ..... Legion Speedway to Host Open Cockpit Super Sunday Series, Monthly Open Cockpit Shows for Sprint Cars, Mini Sprints ..... Lamott Kenneson Post 76 of the American Legion will reopen its quarter mile dirt track on the Rumney/Wentworth town line for a monthly series of Sunday evening Open Cockpit races promoted by Sprint Cars of New England stalwarts Si Allen and Mike Kondrat. Billed as the “Open Cockpit Super Sunday Series,” they’ll run one Sunday per month in July, August and September.
“The Legion will be opening the facility, but Mike and I will be promoting the shows, so if they’re a flop, we’ll be the ones who lose our shirts,” Allen, a former SCoNE Champion, explained jovially. “We’ll be running on July 24, August 7 and September 4,” Allen continued. “The SCoNE Sprint Cars will headline and we’ll have both 500 and 600cc Mini Sprints. Additional Open Cockpit classes may be announced in the near future.”
The Labor Day Weekend date on September 4 marks the finale of the SCoNE Triple Crown Series, coming on the heels of races at Canaan Dirt Speedway on Friday September 2 and at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday September 3. The Triple Crown Series carries a separate points tally of its own and crowns an overall chmpion..
