JULY 4, 2011 ----- McKennedy big winner at Monadnock Speedway ----- Jon McKennedy was as hot as the fireworks that filled the sky July 2nd at Monadnock Speedway, taking the lead on lap 65 and then pulling away to win the annual Firecracker 100 Modified main event at the high banked speedplant.
Nick Boivin, in the Sportsman Modifieds and Ken Springer, in the Super Stocks, each earned his first win of the season, with Beth Adams blistering the asphalt for her fourth Mini Stock win in a row. Barry Gray stayed perfect on the year, with his second Super Late Model win; JT Cloutier earned his fourth victory lap in as many weeks, and Jonah Delgenio romped to victory in the Lightning Stock feature.
Louie Mechalides and Kirk Alexander brought the 23-car Valenti Modified Racing Series field to the green in the Firecracker 100 main event, with Mechalides topping the first eight circuits before Alexander took control on lap nine.
With 57 laps slowed only once by a quick caution, Alexander set a blistering pace at the point, with Mechalides, Rowan Pennink, and Rob Goodenough in hot pursuit. Further back, McKennedy and Les Hinckley were patiently working their way forward, as they moved steadily to the front.
McKennedy was third by lap 40, and took second from Pennink on the 51st circuit, with Hinckley moving up to fifth on the same lap. By lap 60, McKennedy was knocking on the door, and he would inch ahead of Alexander five laps later and then take control of the race.
Once in front, McKennedy drove away, winning by 20 lengths. Hinckley grabbed third on lap 72, chasing Alexander the rest of the way. With Alexander strong in the runner-up spot, and Hinckley third, Pennink and Goodenough rounded out the top five.
In the Sportsman Modified main, Nick Boivin came from row five to take the lead on a lap-ten restart and never look back. Russ Hersey had a hot hookup, but suffered mechanical woes on the same lap that ended his strong run.Points leader Bill Kimball, from the last row, was stuck in rush hour traffic early but finally broke free to claim a distant second and add to his points lead. Rich Hamman put together another strong run to come home third, with Dave Knight and Joey Kendall rounding out the top five.
Mark Smith lead the first nine circuits of the Super Stock main, with points leader John Lavoie moving to the point on lap 22. Lavoie’s stay there would be short though, as he was shuffled back a lap later, giving way to Kenny Springer on a lap-23 restart.
Once in front, Springer would not be denied, driving away to his first win of the season. Smith was the best of the rest, claiming second, with Bill Johnston, Lavoie, and Dana Shepard rounding out the top five.
Tim Leblanc was the man in charge the first 10 laps of the Mini Stock feature, with Eric Dejackome then taking control. Beth Adams was gobbling up the field as she made her way to the front, and dove under Dejackome along the frontchute on lap 15 for the top spot.
Once in front, Adams never looked back, darting off to her fourth win in as many weeks. Dejackome stayed ahead in the points parade with his runner-up finish and Emerson Cayer, in his first run of the season, got up for third, edging out Chris Davis and Joe Rogers. In a post race inspection, Cayer refused tear down giving Davis the third spot.
Barry Gray lead early and often to win his second Super Late Model feature in as many weeks. Steve Gauthier put together his own strong run to grab second, with Fran Colson earning the third-place trophy.
Young Gun JT Cloutier romped to his fourth win in as many weeks in the youth division feature. Starting in row seven, Cloutier picked his way through traffic to grab the point on lap 10, and never looked back. Cordell Colon finished two lengths back to claim the deuce spot, with DJ Lazelle strong all night for third.
The Lightning Stocks closed out the night’s racing, with Jonah Delgenio dominating the field for his first win of the summer. Toby Wells was second under the flags, with Gordon Farnum putting together another strong run to come home third.
