AUGUST 9, 2011 ..... High-flying SCoNE Sprints sail into Bear Ridge Speedway ..... The high-flying, heart-pounding, winged warriors of the WYKR Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) return to Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT on Saturday, August 13, as Walker Motor Sales of Woodsville, NH presents stock car racing at 6:00pm.

The action has been wild on the track and in the air; an all-time SCoNE series record 23 entries with drivers from five states attempted to qualify for 18 starting positions in the most recent event on July 30. Constructed of little more than a 600-horsepower engine, an aerodynamic wing, a few roll bars, and four giant tires, the WYKR Sprint Cars have seen more side-by-side racing than ever before, along with torque-induced wheel stands, racers catapulting over each other, and machines cartwheeling completely out of the speedway into the trees.

Three drivers have withstood the high-speed, metal-crunching drama to stand head-and-shoulders above the rest: New Hampshire racers Chris Donnelly and Dan Douville, and Vermonter Kevin Chaffee. Douville grabbed the last SCoNE victory at Bear Ridge -- his fifth win at the track since 2010 -- and defending champion Donnelly has two wins this season. Douville, Donnelly, and Chaffee have each finished fourth or better in all three Bear Ridge SCoNE races this summer. Chaffee will try to become the first driver to win in three divisions at the track in the same season; he has already won in Bond Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modified and USAC Dirt Midget Association competition.

They’re not the only drivers to watch, though; a talented batch of rookie racers include Limited Late Model track champion Will Hull, NASCAR Whelen Modified standout Andy Seuss, asphalt Supermodified champion Jim Lowrey, Jr., former Sportsman Coupe champion Tyler Rich, and Mini Sprint drivers Jake Williams and Matt Robie. They’re joined by veterans Nick Berry, Robby Bodwell, Lacey Hanson, and former SCoNE champions Mark Cole, Tunk Berry, and Shawn Lawler.

Joining the WYKR Sprint Cars of New England on Walker Motor Sales Night are all five 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series divisions -- DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Sportsman Coupes, Limited Late Models, Fast Fours, and Hornets. A feature race will also be held for the Hornet Stinger youth division.

The Modified race -- the John Poor Memorial -- will award the winner with a guaranteed starting position for the second annual New England Dirt Track Championships on September 24.

Admission on Saturday, August 13, is $10.00 for adults (age 17-61), $8.00 for teens (12-16) and seniors (62+), and $2.00 for kids (11 and under). Racing begins at 6:00pm.

Bear Ridge Speedway is a quarter-mile, semi-banked clay oval located on Kidder Road in Bradford, VT. Bear Ridge Speedway is Vermont’s only dirt track and is New England’s only track sanctioned by the World Racing Group’s Charlotte, NC-based DIRTcar organization.
