AUGUST 31, 2011 ..... Sprint Cars of New England Triple Crown This Weekend ..... The 360 cubic inch Winged Warriors of the Sprint Cars of New England stage their traditional 3 night marathon this weekend with the annual Triple Crown Weekend kicking off on Friday Night at Canaan Dirt Speedway in Canaan, NH. The Sprint Car chauffeurs will be right back at it the next night, headlining a jam packed show at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT. They’ll finish up their methanol powered, fuel injected three-peat on Sunday at Legion Speedway, headlining the second installment of the Sunday Super Series.
A separate points fund for Triple Crown Weekend Starts everyone off even and ensures race fans of three nights of flat out, side-by-side, open wheel action.
Defending series champ and current points leader Chris Donnelly of Piermont, NH seeks a reversal of fortune from last year when perennial nemesis Dan Douville of Bridgewater, NH ran the table by winning all three events. With four wins so far this season, it’s obvious that Donnelly has his act together, but Douville has been coming on strong, winning two of the last three SCoNE features.
“The Fairlee Flier,” Kevin Chafee of Fairlee, VT is enjoying his best season ever in a Sprint Car, currently riding third in points with a runner-up finish at Bear Ridge earlier this year. Jim Lowrey of Tilton, NH will be entering his first Triple Crown. Although he’s a Sprint Car rookie, Lowrey is a past Supermodified Champion at Star Speedway and he already has one SCoNE victory this year. Former SCoNE champ Shawn Lawler of Mason, NH is only running a partial schedule this year, but he’s run well enough to climb up to fifth in points.
All the SCoNE regulars will be on hand and several drivers from the ESS and the CRSA have inquired about running at least some of the Triple Crown shows.
It all gets underway this Friday September 2 at Canaan, followed by Saturday Sept. 3 at Bear Ridge and Sunday Sept. 4 at Legion, where the Sprint Cars of New England will be joined by the Granite State Mini Sprints, North East Mini Sprints and the East Coast Mini Sprints.
